TESDA says 84% of its 2022 graduates have jobs, livelihood

The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) on Monday said the employment rate of its 1.2 million graduates in 2022 reached 84.72%.

Interviewed in a public briefing, TESDA deputy director general Aniceto Bertiz III said based on a study on the employment of their graduates last year, 8 out of 10 of them were able to have jobs or livelihood.

Of the 1.2 million trainees, he said almost nine out of 10 of them were certified in various work sectors. For this year, TESDA is eyeing to train 1.8 million enrollees.

“Nandiyan ang agrikultura, ang construction industry, IT-BPM or digitalizations program na rin ng TESDA, pati na rin ang healthcare, and tourism dahil sa pagbubukas ng ating bansa,” Bertiz said.

Based on the recent data by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), unemployed persons ages 15 and above stood at 2.18 million in November 2022, lower than the 2.24 million jobless in October 2022, and 3.16 million unemployed in November 2021.

The unemployment rate dropped to 4.2% in November 2022 from 4.5% in October 2022 and 6.5% in the same month of the prior year.

Bertiz also underscored the importance of upskilling or reskilling the Filipino workforce to acquire new or additional skills to be used in their jobs or livelihood.

“Napaka-importante talaga ng upskilling, reskilling, and retooling program based on the demand of the industry at local government units natin para ma-address natin ‘yung job skills mismatch at makatulong din tayo sa paghahanap nila ng trabaho,” he said.
