PSA: Births, deaths down; marriages up from Jan. to Sept. 2022


There were fewer births and death registered from January to September 2022 compared to the data in the same period last year, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

Marriages, however, was up last year, the statistics office data showed.

Births

From January to September 2022, the number of registered births reached 783,199.

This was lower by 20.6% than the total registered births of 986,369 in the same period in 2021.

Calabarzon reported the highest number of registered births at 118,919 or 15.2% of the total births in the country.

The NCR registered 88,033 births or a 24.7% decrease from the 116,940 births in the same period in 2021. Quezon City recorded the highest number of registered births at 16,785 or 19.1% of the total births in the region.

Cavite reported the highest number of registered births among provinces at 31,516 or 4% of the total births in the country, followed by the provinces of Bulacan with 26,498 or 3.4% and Laguna with 24,466 or 3.1%.

Deaths

The PSA reported a total of 418,027 deaths from January to September 2022. 

The agency said this was lower by 38.6% than the total registered deaths of 680,597 in the same period in 2021.

Calabarzon topped the regions with the highest number of registered deaths from January to September 2022 at 63,617 or 15.2% of the total deaths in the country.

The National Capital Region (NCR), meanwhile, logged 49,421 deaths which was a -41.6% decrease from the 84,559 deaths registered in the same period in 2021.

Quezon City recorded the highest number of registered deaths in the NCR from January to September 2022 at 9,775 or 19.8% of the total deaths in the region.

Among the provinces, Cavite reported the highest number of registered deaths at 15,974 or 3.8% of the total deaths in the country.

This was followed by Bulacan with 14,933 deaths or 3.6% and Pangasinan with 13,924 or 3.3%.

Marriages

Meanwhile, the PSA said the registered marriages reached 286,555 from January to September 2022.

With the same cut-off date in processing the birth certificates, the PSA said its preliminary count is higher by 13.1% than the total registered marriages of 253,426 in the same period in 2021.

Among the regions, Calabarzon reported the highest number of registered marriages at 42,122 or 14.7% of the total marriages in the country.

The NCR registered 33,811 marriages which was a 25% increase from the 27,059 marriages registered in the same period in 2021.

Among its cities and municipalities, Quezon City recorded the highest number of registered marriages at 11,236 or 33.2% of the total marriages in the region.

In the provinces, Batangas, Cavite and Pangasinan logged the most numbers of marriages from January to September 2022 with 10,212 or 3.6%, 9,940 or 3.5%, and 9,191 or 3.2%, respectively.
