DSWD’s Gatchalian to prioritize fixing list of beneficiaries

Newly-appointed Social Welfare and Development Secretary Rex Gatchalian on Wednesday said he will prioritize the fixing of the agency’s list of beneficiaries.

“May bagong technology. We just have to make sure na maayos ‘yung listahan. So ayan ang priority one natin, siguraduhin na tama ‘yung listahan,” Gatchalian said in an interview on Super Radyo dzBB.

(There’s new technology. We just have to make sure that the list is good. So that is our first priority, we have to make sure that the list is correct.)

According to Gatchalian, digitalization is the end product.

“We have to start off with the list. ‘Yung list kasi marami ‘yan eh, meron list from PSA, may list from NEDA, may list from DSWD,” Gacthalian said.

(We have to start off with the list because there are many lists. There are lists from the PSA, from NEDA, and from the DSWD.)

“Data, marami tayong data pero kailangan talaga may tao na mag aanalisa kung ano ba talaga, sino ba talaga ang hinahabol namin,” he added.

(We have many data but we really need someone to analyze who the beneficiaries really are.)

No restructuring of DSWD

Meanwhile, Gatchalian said he will not restructure the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

“Ako, klaro, I plan to work with the existing bureaucracy. May talento, may puso ‘yung mga nasa DSWD,” Gatchalian said.

“Hindi kasi ako ganoong klaseng tao. I will work with you as long as you want to get your hands dirty, meaning pare-parehas tayo mag trabaho,” he added.

(Because I am not that kind of person. I will work with you as long as you want to get your hands dirty, meaning we will all work.)
