Philippines prepares donation items for quake-hit Syria —OCD

The Philippine government has prepared donation items that will be sent to quake-hit Syria, the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) said Monday.

At a press conference, OCD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Bernardo Rafaelito Alejandro IV said there will be no “team” that will be sent to Syria.

“One is to prepare 'yung similar donated items like blankets. So wala pong team for Syria,” he said at a press conference.

The Syrian government earlier made an appeal to the Philippine government for assistance following the magnitude 7.8 earthquake that struck the country and Turkey. The OCD said the request was being evaluated.

According to Alejandro, they are still waiting for the official announcement from the Palace and the Department of Foreign Affairs about the matter.

The quake that his Turkey on February 6 has killed at least 33,000 people in the country and Syria as of Sunday.

The Philippines has sent an 82-man team to help the rescue operation in Turkey. — BM, GMA Integrated News
