Ex-DILG exec Malaya appointed NSC assistant director general

Former Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) undersecretary and spokesperson Jonathan Malaya has been named the new assistant director general of the National Security Council (NSC).

NSC Adviser Eduardo Año on Wednesday welcomed Malaya’s designation and said he received the appointment paper on Tuesday. The two officials previously worked together in the DILG under the Duterte administration, where Año served as the department secretary.

“We welcome his appointment to the National Security Council. I worked closely with him in the DILG for five years. His 25-year experience in public service as well as his proven dedication and commitment to the national interest will serve this agency and the country well,” said Año.

Prior to his appointment, Malaya worked as a senior lecturer at the University of the Philippines National College of Public Administration and Governance, where he taught courses in public accountability, ethics in the public service, metropolitan and regional governance, and public policy.

He was also the executive director of the Local Government Development Institute, a think tank and training institutes promoting excellence in local governments.

Malaya has served in nine government agencies during his stint in public service, including the Office of the President, the Department of Education, and the Office of the Solicitor General. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA Integrated News
