Envoy to WTO Teehankee, 2 DFA execs get CA confirmation

The Commission on Appointments (CA) on Wednesday confirmed the appointment of Manuel Antonio Teehankee as Permanent Representative of the Philippines to the World Trade Organization in Geneva, Switzerland.

This after the CA Committee on Foreign Affairs finally endorsed his nomination to the plenary for the bicameral body's approval.

Teehankee's appointment was taken up by the CA panel in December. However, it was deferred after Senator Risa Hontiveros asked him to provide a copy of the Understanding on Agreed Procedures Towards a Complete Settlement with Thailand.

This was related to a complaint that was filed by the Philippines in 2008 about Thailand's custom valuation of Philippine cigarette exports.

Apart from Teehankee, the CA also approved the ad interim appointments of Career Minister Rodillo Rivera Catalan and Foreign Service Officer Class I Joyce Marison Camacho Quivooij. — BM, GMA Integrated News
