6 out of 7 species of sea turtle possibly threatened due to climate change

Six out of seven species of sea turtles were possibly threatened due to the effects of climate change.

According to Cedric Castillo’s “24 Oras” report on Thursday, climate is affecting the journey of sea turtles in the ocean due to the change in current or water flow.

Sea turtles from the Pacific Ocean traveled to the Philippines to eat and lay eggs.

“Naiimpluwensyahan ng climate change dahil binabago nito yung ocean currents so nahihirapan silang magnavigate papunta sa ibang island kung saan walang ganitong kastrict na protection so baka ma-endangered din yung buhay nila,” resident biologist of Apo Island Edmar Detecio said.

(Climate change influenced the ocean currents so it is difficult for them to navigate to other islands where there is no strict protection so their lives may also be endangered.)

Meanwhile, 700 animal species including Philippine eagle and Sulu hornbill, which can be found in the Philippines, were possibly endangered due to climate change. -- Richa Noriega/BAP, GMA Integrated News
