PNP, PDEA destroy P6.7B worth of shabu seized from dismissed cop Mayo

Shabu worth P6.7 billion that were seized from now-dismissed Police Master Sergeant Rodolfo Mayo in 2022 have been destroyed, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Tuesday.

In a statement, the PNP said the destruction of the seized illegal drug was conducted on March 26 in Trece Martires City, Cavite, with assistance from the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA).

The 990 kilos of shabu were seized from Ney Saligumba Atadero and Mayo in a series of operations in Manila on October 8 to 9, 2022, according to the PNP. It was considered one of the biggest hauls in the country’s history.

On March 21, the PNP said Mayo has already been dismissed from the service, with PNP chief Police General Rodolfo Azurin Jr. signing the dismissal order on March 6.

Mayo, who was arrested in the October 2022 police operation, was dismissed over three counts of Grave Misconduct and Conduct Unbecoming of a Police Officer.

Mayo was an intelligence officer for the PNP Drug Enforcement Group, based on police records.

The PNP Drug Enforcement Group said the first operation was conducted along Jose Abad Santos Street in Barangay 252, Tondo, Manila, which led to the arrest of Atadero.

During the interrogation, Atadero said the illegal drugs' storage was located inside the office of a lending firm in Sta. Cruz, Manila.

Another operation was carried out to nab another individual named by the suspect. Mayo was arrested in Quiapo during the operation. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
