Dengue cases up by 94% in first quarter of 2023 vs. same period in 2022


The number of dengue cases in the first quarter of 2023 rose by 94% over the same period in 2022, data from the Department of Health (DOH) showed.

From January 1 to March 18, 2023, dengue cases totaled 27,670, according to a report by Mai Bermudez on Saksi on Tuesday.

During the same period last year, the number of dengue cases was at 14,278.

The National Capital Region led in the total number of dengue cases this first quarter of 2023.

It was followed by Central Luzon, then Davao Region.

A total of 92 deaths due to dengue were recorded in the first quarter of 2023.

The DOH continues to urge the public to follow the 4S kontra dengue strategy:

  • Search and destroy mosquito-breeding sites
  • Secure self-protection measures
  • Seek early consultation
  • Support fogging and spraying
