NPC employees evacuate due to bomb threat

The National Privacy Commission received a bomb threat on Friday morning prompting NPC employees to evacuate from their offices,  Nimfa Ravelo reported on Super Radyo dzBB.

In an NPC Facebook post on its partnership with telecommunications companies, a netizen commented, "Bomb threat on your building starts now."

The comment was posted around 11:45 a.m.

NPC employees were immediately ordered to evacuate from their Philippine International Convention Center offices in Pasay City.

According to NPC Public Information and Assistance Division chief Roren Marie Chin, they had reported the netizen to Facebook.

“I want to assure the public that we are taking this bomb threat very seriously, and we have implemented all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of our premises and personnel,” NPC Primary Commissioner Attorney John Henry D. Naga said in a statement.

He noted that after receiving the bomb threat, NPC immediately activated its emergency response procedures and notified the security office.

They were coordinating with authorities to ascertain the credibility and origin of the threat.

"The National Privacy Commission plays a critical role in safeguarding the privacy rights of individuals and protecting their data. We are committed to upholding our mandate, and threats against our institution will not prevent us from fulfilling our responsibilities," Naga added.

With this, the NPC also apologized for the delay in releasing its press statement on recent reports of unauthorized fund transfers from a financial application. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
