Palace: Marcos OK’d Senator Tulfo’s proposal to probe NGCP

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. has approved the proposal of Senator Raffy Tulfo to conduct an investigation into the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, Tulfo expressed his intention to Marcos to assess the performance of the NGCP. The President then agreed to this and expressed that the government will take control of the agency if needed.

"The President agreed with the senator's proposal to conduct a comprehensive study or hold hearings to determine the actual situation. If necessary, the government will take back control of the entity," the PCO said in a statement issued Wednesday.

The PCO said Tulfo wants to examine the security aspect, particularly on who truly controls the NGCP.

Tulfo earlier raised to the President China’s "supposed control" over the NGCP, saying that it poses a serious security threat to the country.

Tulfo shared with Marcos the alleged violations of NGCP in its franchise, "specifically the failure to follow timely development and connectivity in the main grid of energy power in various provinces amid recent power disruptions."

He also claimed that a big part of the earnings of NGCP goes to the shareholders and not on its system development. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
