Ex-Senator Pong Biazon laid to rest at Libingan ng mga Bayani

Former Senator Rodolfo Biazon has been laid to rest at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Taguig City on Tuesday.

As a former chief of the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Biazon was accorded full military honors.

A funeral procession to the veteran lawmaker’s grave followed the arrival honors.

He was brought to his grave by his family, friends and former and incumbent officials of the Department of National Defense and the AFP.

Among those who were present at Biazon’s funeral were Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro, former Defense and military chief Carlito Galvez Jr. and incumbent AFP chief General Andres Centino.

As part of the burial rites, the hymns of the Philippine Marine Corps and the Philippine Military Academy were played.

After which, Centino gave the Philippine flag used for Biazon’s funeral to the late soldier's wife, Monserrat Biazon.

Biazon was part of PMA Class 1961 and served in the Marine Corps from 1987 to 1989. He was named military chief in 1991.

Biazon passed away on June 12 after battling pneumonia. He was 88.

As a former member of the upper chamber, the Senate of the Philippines paid tribute to Biazon, honoring him for his gallant stand for the people and the country’s democracy.

The Philippine Marine Corps also paid their last respects to the late soldier-statesman at the PMC headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City on Monday afternoon. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
