Philippines logs 297 new COVID-19 cases, lowest in 10 weeks


New COVID-19 cases in the Philippines stood at 297 on Tuesday, a 10-week low, data from the Department of Health showed.

It was the first time that the daily tally fell below 300 cases since April 18. Active cases also dropped to 7,760, the lowest in eight weeks or since May 3 (7,565).

The nationwide caseload is now at 4,163,472, and the total recoveries have climbed to 4,089,229.

One new fatality was recorded on Tuesday, bringing the death toll to 66,483.

In the past two weeks, the National Capital Region had the highest number of cases with 1,571, followed by Central Luzon with 1,103, Calabarzon with 1,020, Western Visayas with 634, and Cagayan Valley with 523.

Among cities and provinces, Quezon City had the highest number of new cases in the past 14 days with 401, followed by Iloilo with 358, Cavite with 338, Bulacan with 292, and Pampanga with 247.

On Monday, a total of 6,081 individuals were tested, and 314 testing laboratories submitted data.

As of Monday, the national COVID-19 bed occupancy rate was 17.2%, with 4,298 occupied and 20,627 vacant beds. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
