Local carrier domestic flights successfully moved to NAIA Terminal 2

Domestic flights of local carriers have been successfully moved to the Terminal 2 of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) over the weekend, in line with the government’s Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization (STAR) Program.

In an advisory released Sunday, the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said all domestic flights of AirAsia Philippines were successfully moved to Terminal 2 as of July 1, Saturday, while its international flights continue to operate from Terminal 3.

Domestic boutique charter airline Sunlight Air on Saturday also moved to NAIA Terminal 4, which has been designated as a dedicated turbo-prop airport terminal.

The changes are in line with the MIAA’s STAR Program, which aims to decongest NAIA Terminal 4, the oldest facility of the country’s main gateway.

This comes amid talks of privatizing NAIA, after a consortium of six Filipino conglomerates and US-based Global Infrastructure Partners (GIP) formed the Manila International Airport Consortium (MIAC) to submit an unsolicited proposal to upgrade the NAIA through a public-private partnership (PPP).

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is also planning a solicited PPP, with the bidding for the project targeted by September, and to start by the first quarter of 2024. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
