Accused in Degamo case moved to BJMP facility

The accused in the killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo have been moved to a facility of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP), Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla announced Monday.

“The Degamo suspects have been transferred already to the BJMP in Bicutan… BJMP already took custody of them,” Remulla said in a media briefing.

In a 4-page order dated June 30, the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51 ordered the accused in the Degamo killing to be transferred to the BJMP Compound in Camp Bagong Diwa from the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI)

The Manila RTC dismissed the motions of the accused to be retained at the NBI detention facility.

“The accused movants apart from their mere say so, failed to substantiate by evidence their claims of plot to kill them, the existence of threat to their life and safety and the alleged torture committed against them by policemen after their arrest/apprehension,” it read.

“They did not provide the names of the persons who supplied the reliable information of the plot to kill them once transferred to the Philippine National Police in Camp Crame, Quezon City as well as the identity of the persons behind the plot,” it added.

Meanwhile, the Court said the accused may appear and participate in the trial through video conferencing. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
