PNP chief: Marcos could cite decreasing crime trend in SONA

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. on Monday said the decreasing crime trend in the country could be among the highlights of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s second State of the Nation Address (SONA).

In an interview with reporters, Acorda was asked what PNP accomplishments would Marcos mention in his SONA.

Acorda responded that the President could point to the decreasing crime trends due to the efforts of police officers.

"Also, we are seeing 'yung trust rating based on our survey na natanggap natin, mataas naman... Sana tuloy-tuloy," Acorda said.

(We are also seeing the PNP's trust rating based on the survey that we received, it's high. I hope that will continue.)

The number of index crimes in the country fell 16% in the first three months of 2023.

Citing data from the PNP, Department of the Interior and Local Government Secretary Benhur Abalos said 7,865 index crimes were reported from January 1 to March 25, 2023, compared to 9,375 crime incidents in the same period last year. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
