Reported death toll due to Egay, Falcon, Habagat now at 29 — NDRRMC


The reported deaths due to the effects of Southwest Monsoon or Habagat, which was enhanced by Tropical Cyclones Egay and Falcon, has climbed to 29, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Friday.

In its latest report, the NDRRMC said these fatalities were reported in Ilocos, Western Visayas, Davao, and Cordillera Administrative Region.

Of the total reported fatalities, only two have been confirmed, while the remaining 27 are still for validation, according to the NDRRMC.

Eleven people are still missing, it added.

The reported injured individuals due to the effects of inclement weather also rose from 140 to 165.

Affected individuals

The number of total affected people breached to 3,028,040 or 805,621 families from Ilocos, Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol, Western Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, Soccsksargen, Bangsamoro, Cordillera, and Metro Manila.

Of the affected population, a total of 57,226 people or 15,473  families are  staying in 648 evacuation centers while 229,831 individuals or 57,000 families are taking shelter in other places, the NDRRMC said.

A total of 56,694 houses were damaged by the inclement weather —54,406 partially and 2,288 totally.

Damage worth P3,631,012,164 was reported for infrastructure and P 1,938,835 for agriculture. The cost of other damaged assets was at P9,977,216. The National Irrigation Administration (NIA) also reported P11,431,000 worth of damage.

The NDRRMC reported 590 flooded areas—of which, 368 java already receded—as well as 33 landslides, 16 tornadoes or destructive winds incidents, 43 fallen trees, two sinkholes, and one maritime incident.

State of calamity was declared in 232 cities and municipalities due to the impact of Habagat.

Power supply was interrupted in 266 areas and water supply problems were encountered in six areas. Also, there were communication lines issues in 10 areas.

A total of 85 domestic flights were canceled but 78 of them have already resumed.

As 45 seaports remained non-operational, a total of 248 passengers, 42 rolling cargoes, 11 vessels, and 21 motorbancas remained stranded, the NDRRMC said.

Assistance worth P248,324,084 was provided to the victims, according to the NDRRMC. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
