Marcos commends National Youth Commission, encourages more youth development

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Saturday commended the National Youth Commission (NYC) and urged it to continue with its development programs for the youth.

In his message for NYC's 28th founding anniversary and International Youth Day 2023 posted on his Instagram, Marcos commended the commission for its "initiative to gather our SK [Sangguniang Kabataan] leaders together with our ROTC Corps commanders, our government cadets from the PMA, PNPA, PMMA, PPSA and from the OCS of the Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard."

"We are all partners in guiding, inspiring, and leading the Filipino youth towards strengthening this republic, to mobilize them during disasters and emergencies, countering rebel youth recruitment to defend all our people and the Republic," Marcos said.

The President also cited his work in the past which championed the youth.

"From the Kabataang Barangay, created during the time of my father, we have continued to uplift the youth sector of our country," Marcos said.

"In my time as Congressman, I authored Republic Act 8044, the law that created the National Youth Commission in 1995. I also authored, in my time as Senator, Republic Act 10742, or the SK Reform Law of 2015. With these two landmark laws for the Filipino youth, the National Youth Commission supervised the return of SK leaders of our country in 2018," he said.

Marcos then wished the NYC, SK, and all youth the best, adding that the youth is the nation's hope — "ang mga tunay na pag-asa ng ating bayan. Mga makabagong lider na kabataan para sa ating makabagong Pilipinas" (the true hope of our nation, new young leaders for a new Philippines). —KG, GMA Integrated News
