China Embassy stresses importance of cooperation amid rescue of Pinoy fishermen
The Chinese Embassy in Manila on Saturday said the recent rescue of two Philippine fishermen by the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) emphasized the importance of humanitarian efforts and cooperation between nations.
"The PLA naval medics kindly examined the wound then brought the fisherman aboard their vessel for further treatment, immediately disinfecting, bandaging, and closing the wound," the embassy said in a statement.
On Friday night, China's state news agency Xinhua reported that the PLA naval vessel had rescued the Filipino fishermen in the Spratly Islands.
One of the fishermen was reportedly bleeding with wounds inflicted by propeller blades.
The fishermen were also provided with food and medical supplies, including drinking water, antibiotics, and painkillers.
The PLA then transferred the fishermen safely to the Philippine side.
"This story reminds us that we are all interconnected, regardless of nationality," it noted.
The embassy added that the rescue is an example of what both countries can achieve when they work together. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
