Marcos orders distribution of assistance to rice price cap-affected sari-sari stores

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. ordered the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute the cash assistance for sari-sari store owners affected by the price ceiling on rice.

According to a palace statement, the DSWD said it would distribute the cash assistance from September 25 to 29.

The DSWD worked with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to identify the beneficiaries.

Marcos had also directed the DSWD to provide cash assistance to small rice retailers affected by the mandated price ceiling on regular and well-milled rice.

The President approved the implementation of the mandated P41 price ceiling on regular milled and the P45 price cap on well-milled rice through Executive Order No. 39.

Based on its latest report, the DSWD said that it had released P92.415 million in financial assistance to 6,161 out of the 8,390-target micro and small rice retailers affected by the implementation of the EO 39. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
