DOTr warns against unauthorized beep card merchandise

The Department of Transportation on Tuesday reminded the public that any merchandise bearing the beep card trademark and functionality, including charms, trinkets, keychains, bracelets, and accessories bearing beep card functionality, has not been authorized and has not been authorized as fare media in the light railway network.

In a statement, the DOTr warned that the use of these products as stored value cards was not considered authorized fare media on the light rail network.

Any individual caught using any unauthorized beep merchandise will be blacklisted and have their products confiscated due to counterfeiting and infringement of intellectual copyrights.

The DOTr added that AF Payments Inc. (AFPI) is the legal owner of the beep trademark and the sole and exclusive issuer of beep cards.

Meanwhile, all rail stations will only be accepting beep cards purchased from authorized sources to process train fares, top-ups, balance inquiries, balance transfers, card replacements, and all other stored value card privileges. — DVM, GMA Integrated news
