Comelec expects 70 to 75% voter turnout for BSKE 2023
INDANG, Cavite — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) is expecting 70 to 75% voter turnout for the 2023 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE), a slight increase from the previous BSKE.
“Seventy to 75%. Nu’ng 2015, 2018 nagre-range sa 70 to 71 percent. Ngayon walang kadahilanan na hindi tayo makaboto sapagkat mahaba naman po ang bakasyon ngayon,” Garcia told reporters here.
(In 2015 and 2018 the voter turnout ranged from 70 to 71 percent. They have no reason not to vote this time because the vacation is longer.)
Voting for 2023 BSKE ran from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There are approximately 68 million registered barangay voters and 24 million SK voters.
Meanwhile, Garcia said voter turnout in the New Bilibid Prison was at 92% from 880 registered voters in the prison facility.
For all facilities controlled by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, Garcia said the voter turnout was at 77%.
As of Monday noon, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said it has recorded 169 incidents of violence suspected to be related to the BSKE.
Only 31 of these reported incidents have been confirmed to be related to the BSKE, while 94 have been confirmed to be unrelated. There are 44 incidents that are still undergoing the validation process.
Of the 31 confirmed incidents connected with the elections, Acorda said most of them were reported in Bangsamoro with 12 cases, followed by Cordillera with five, and Northern Mindanao with four.
Three cases were reported in Ilocos and Eastern Visayas, two cases in the Bicol Region and Central Visayas. Once case was reported in Zamboanga. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
