PNP: Crime rate in January-October 2023 down by 8% compared to 2022

The crime rate in the country from January-October 2023 dropped by around 8% compared to the same period in 2022, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the PNP said an 8.24% decrease was recorded in index crimes or crimes against persons.

An 8.18% drop was also reported in focus crimes, which include murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, robbery, theft, carnapping of motor vehicles, and carnapping of motorcycles.

For most wanted persons, 63,486 were arrested while 341 surrendered to authorities.

Due to loose firearms, 7,914 individuals were arrested, and 25,174 firearms were recovered, surrendered, or confiscated.

In the illegal drugs campaign, 48,454 individuals were arrested and over P9.731 billion worth of prohibited narcotic drugs were seized in 37,801 operations.

The PNP said 732 people were arrested for alleged involvement in cybercrime.

“This consistent commitment to public safety remains unswayed by political shifts, reflecting the enduring role of the PNP in safeguarding our citizens,” PNP chief Police General Benjamin Acorda Jr. said.

“These achievements not only represent statistics but also symbolize the tangible benefits our work brings—enhanced security and greater peace of mind for all,” he added.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA Integrated News
