House adopts resolution condemning Marawi bombing

The House of Representatives on Wednesday adopted a resolution condemning the bombing at Mindanao State University (MSU) in Marawi City that killed four people and left 45 injured last December 4.

This was provided under House Resolution 1504 which also called for the speedy investigation and prosecution of the perpetrators of the terror attack while a Catholic mass was being celebrated in MSU last Sunday.

The Resolution lamented that the MSU bombing was an extremely disturbing, appalling, and tragic event that occurred in a place of learning and fellowship and during Sunday service, “jeopardizing the peace process the government has initiated in Mindanao and disrupting the peace and security of the communities in the region.”

“There is an urgent need for a thorough investigation of this incident by the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process, and all government agencies concerned to determine the perpetrators of these senseless and horrific killings. Acts of lawlessness, violence, and terrorist activities, resulting in violent killings, especially of innocent people, destruction of property, and disruption of public order and safety should never be tolerated,” the resolution read.

“The House of Representatives condemns this act of violence perpetrated against innocent students and undertaken in a place of learning. I condole with the families of those who died and sympathize with those injured in the blast,” Speaker Martin Romualdez added in a separate statement.

The House Resolution also stated that the chamber is “committed to supporting the affected residents to ensure that those responsible for this heinous act are brought to justice.”

The Islamic State has since claimed responsibility for the attack, while the police identified two suspects who are Maute group members. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
