PH Coast Guard says its X account was 'compromised'

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday said its account on X (formerly Twitter) had been compromised.

In a statement, the PCG said its Coast Guard Public Affairs Service (CGPAS) immediately coordinated with the X Support Team to report the incident.

The X Support Team, it said, advised the CGPAS to standby for further assistance

“The PCG urges the general public to be cautious in receiving succeeding tweets from the said compromised account. The CGPAS will provide further updates regarding the incident,” the PCG said.

In an update, the PCG said as of 11:30 a.m. it has retrieved access to its account with the help of the X Support Team.

“We have also strengthened our security measures to protect our account against security breaches,” the PCG said.

Earlier this month, the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) said hackers believed to be operating in China had breached into the email systems and internal websites of several Philippine government agencies.

China, meanwhile, has dismissed as “groundless” the allegations of hacking.

At a Palace press briefing last week, DICT Secretary Ivan John Uy said China is willing to help in the investigation of the cybercrimes. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
