Marcos: PH gov't must lead in supporting Pinoy artists

President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. on Tuesday said the government should take the lead in supporting Filipino artists.

The President made the remark during the 16th Ani ng Dangal 2024 at the Metropolitan Theatre in Manila City. He said that "culture is the shared consciousness of the Filipino and it is the answer to the question, 'What is it to be Filipino?'"

"Government must take the lead and the reason why I consider it very, very important and I've always done so, is because the culture of a country is the definition of its people," Marcos said.  

"Every applause that you draw from the audience, wherever in the world, is also an adulation for the land of your birth which is rich in artistry. You are ambassadors of our culture have won the hearts of audiences here and abroad," he added.

Marcos said it is time that these Filipino artists are honored by their own, in their homeland, to which they have given so much pride and joy.

At least 26 awardees were honored in the "Ani ng Dangal," which is an annual concluding rite of National Arts Month every February honoring natural-born Filipino artists or groups.

They have received international awards and accolades in the field of architecture, cinema, dance, dramatic arts, literary arts, music, visual arts, folk arts and broadcast arts over the past year. — VDV, GMA Integrated News
