Marcos: Mom Imelda in good spirits, has no difficulty breathing

MELBOURNE —President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said his mother, former First Lady Imelda Marcos, is "in good spirits" even as she is suffering from "slight pneumonia."

"I just spoke with my mother’s doctors. She is suffering from slight pneumonia and is running a fever," Marcos said in a statement.

"She has been put on a course of antibiotics and the doctors are confident that this will relieve her fever. She is in good spirits, has no difficulty breathing and is resting well," he added.

Marcos, who is in Melbourne for the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit, also thanked the public for their concern and prayers for his mother.

Senator Imee Marcos earlier said that their mother has been hospitalized due to suspected pneumonia.

"Inospital na namin [for] close monitoring... Suspected pneumonia as she has been having fever [and] cough on [and] off. Given her age, we [have to] take [maximum] precautions," Senator Marcos said, referring to the 94-year old matriarch.

In May last year, the former First Lady underwent an angioplasty procedure. —NB/VBL, GMA Integrated News
