PNP: Fatalities from Holy Week drowning incidents now 8

Eight people, including minors, have died due to drowning incidents this Holy Week, the Philippine National Police said on Friday.

Based on its record, the PNP said the fatalities were reported from eight incidents in Cagayan, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Bicol, Eastern Visayas, Davao, and Caraga regions

One person was also reported injured in Ilocos.

Of the nine victims, the PNP said six were minors and three were adults.

Meanwhile, the PNP also recorded three vehicular accidents this Holy Week so far. Two were reported in the Bicol Region and one in Eastern Visayas.

Three people were injured in the vehicular accidents, according to the PNP.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Friday said responders have recovered the bodies of the two 14-year-old boys who went missing while they were swimming in Solana, Cagayan.

According to the PCG, the bodies of the victims were retrieved on Maundy Thursday.

The victims went missing on Holy Wednesday while swimming in Cagayan River in Barangay Natappian, the PNP said.

For this year's observation of the Holy Week, the occasion started March 24, Palm Sunday, and will end on March 31, Easter Sunday.

Many people took advantage of the long holidays to go home to their respective provinces or to have their vacation. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
