Amir of Qatar in PH for two-day state visit

The Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al Thani will visit the Philippines from April 21-22, 2024.

According to the Presidential Communications Office, the Qatari leader’s two-day state visit was upon the invitation of President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

“The two leaders are expected to exchange views on regional issues and to discuss PH-Qatar bilateral relations which now covers cooperation in the areas of labor, climate change, trade and investments, energy security, education, youth, and sports, among others,” the PCO said.

The last state visit by the Qatari Amir to the Philippines was in 2012 by Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the current leader’s father.

According to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) in 2022, Qatar is the 5th most popular destination of Overseas Filipino Workers in Asia, with around 250,000 OFWs.—RF, GMA Integrated News
