Marcos confident insurgency will end in Eastern Visayas under his term
President Ferdinand ''Bongbong'' Marcos Jr. on Monday expressed confidence that the communist insurgency in Eastern Visayas would end under his term, noting the ''sufficient'' progress in the region.
''Yes I am very... because I've seen the progress report, it’s getting better and better hindi na gaano hindi na masyadong magulo kagaya noong dati, mayroon pa ring mga encounter pero hindi na kasing laking large number at saka 'yung organization ay nababaklas-baklas na natin,'' Marcos said in an interview in Tacloban City.
(Yes I am very... because I've seen the progress report, it’s getting better and better. It is no longer violent there, there are some encounters but not that big. Their organization has also crumbled.)
''So I think the progress is sufficient and I think we will be able to do it in the schedule that we have given ourselves,'' he added.
Marcos earlier said the government's anti-insurgency task force, the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC), would continue to cleanse the remaining barangays from insurgency.
The President said that NTF-ELCAC, which has repeatedly earned the ire of militant groups over its alleged practice of red-tagging individuals, should be allowed to carry out its important mission. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
