CA defers deliberations on Cacdac's appointment as DMW chief
A Commission on Appointments (CA) committee on Tuesday deferred the deliberations on the ad interim appointment of Hans Leo Cacdac as secretary of the Department of Migrant Workers (DMW).
It was SAGIP Party-List Representative Rodante Marcoleta who moved to suspend the deliberations for "lack of material time" as he wanted to discuss further some concerns about Cacdac's appointment.
During the hearing, several lawmakers expressed support for Cacdac, but two people appeared before the CA panel to express their opposition.
A conflict of interest stemming from Cacdac's alleged ownership of dummy recruitment agencies was one of the issues brought up by Ferdinand Delos Reyes, one of those who opposed the appointment.
Cacdac denied the allegation.
In an ambush interview, CA chairperson and Senate President Francis "Chiz" Escudero said that the bicameral commission should schedule another hearing before the adjournment of Congress' session this week; otherwise, Cacdac's appointment would be considered bypassed, and he would need to be reappointed by President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.
In April, Marcos appointed Cacdac to head the DMW after serving as officer-in-charge following the death of former secretary Susan “Toots” Ople in August last year. —VBL, GMA Integrated News
