Senate elects new committee heads under Escudero's leadership


On the last day of session, the Senate installed new committee chairpersons as Senator Francis Escudero's election as Senate President caused the movements in the chamber's organization.

The following are elected as new chairpersons of the following committees:

-Economic Affairs: Senator Juan Miguel "Migz" Zubiri from Mark Villar
-Government Corporations and Public Enterprises: Senator Mark Villar from Alan Peter Cayetano
-Trade and Industry: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano from Senator Mark Villar
-Energy: Senator Pia Cayetano from Raffy Tulfo
-Finance: Senator Grace Poe from Sonny Angara
-Higher, Technical and Vocational Education: Senator Alan Peter Cayetano from Escudero
-Justice and Human Rights: Senator Sonny Angara from Francis Tolentino
-Sustainable Development Goals: Senator Nancy Binay from Pia Cayetano
-Labor: Senator Joel Villanueva from Jinggoy Estrada
-Public Services: Senator Raffy Tulfo from Grace Poe
-Tourism: Senator Lito Lapid from Nancy Binay
-Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement: Senator Imee Marcos from JV Ejercito

Ejercito was reelected as chairperson of the committee on local government after resigning on Tuesday.

Escudero replacing Zubiri as the Senate president triggered the resignation of the former Senate president's allies from their committee chairmanship.

Those who supported Zubiri until the end were Senators Loren Legarda, Joel Villanueva, JV Ejercito, Sonny Angara, Sherwin Gatchalian, and Nancy Binay.

Only Gatchalian and Legarda did not resign from their committee chairmanship after Zubiri's resignation.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
