VP Sara Duterte says father to be one of her lawyers in impeachment complaints

Vice President Sara Duterte said her father, former President Rodrigo Duterte, will be one of her lawyers for the three impeachment complaints she is facing.

According to a report on Balitanghali on December 26, Duterte said that she did not violate any laws and that she was ready to face her cases.

"Nagkausap kami, bago lang, sabi nya na since hindi ko tatanggapin yung pera mag-lawyer s'ya para sa akin. (We talked recently and he said that since I won't accept the money, he will instead lawyer for me). He will be one of the lawyers for all the cases," the Vice President said.

“Well, I am confident that I did not break any law. I did not do anything illegal… Kapag nandiyan na ang kaso, haharapin pa rin namin, (When the cases are there, then we will face it.)” Duterte added in a separate "24 Oras" report on December 25.

Duterte is currently facing three impeachment complaints over the alleged misuse of P612 million confidential funds by the Office of the Vice President.

Earlier, Duterte welcomed the complaints as she stated it was better as she was the only one being attacked.

“So, okay din 'yung impeachment case dahil ako lang ang tinitira doon, ako lang iniimbestigahan noon. Ako lang ang inaatake ng impeachment case. Hindi na kasali ang nga kasamahan ko sa OVP and mga dati kong kasama sa DepEd. Masagot na ng final kung ano 'yung mga inaakusa nila sa akin,” she said.

(So, it’s okay they filed an impeachment case since I’ll only be the one who's being attacked. I’ll only be the one who's being investigated. I’ll only be the one who is being attacked in the impeachment case. My staff in the Office of the Vice President and Department of Education will no longer be involved. I can finally answer what they are accusing me of.) —Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
