Comelec concerned over text spoofing

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday expressed concern that text spoofing might be used against candidates in the May 2025 polls.

(We really have to fight this, those text blasting, because the message might claim that it came from a certain candidate but it was not.)

According to Garcia, the Comelec is set to sign a deal with the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) to address its concern over text spoofing in connection with the upcoming elections.

Kakailanganin natin ng ibang ahensya ng pamahalaan,” he said.

(We are coordinating with the NTC. In fact, we will sign an agreement because of course the ability of the Comelec is very limited. We will need another government agency.)

The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups is set from February 11 to March 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates for House of Representatives and parliamentary, provincial, city and municipal elections will be from March 28 to May 10.

Election Day is on May 12, but overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
