China, PH to focus on ‘original aspirations’ for mutual benefit, says Amb. Huang
Chinese Ambassador to the Philippines Huang Xilian on Sunday expressed hopes that both China and the Philippines will prioritize their "original aspirations" to work collaboratively for the well-being of their citizens.
At the Chinese New Year reception organized by the Chinese Embassy and Filipino-Chinese organizations in Taguig, Huang highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral ties, which he believes will benefit the over 1.5 billion people of both nations.
"I look forward to seeing both sides remain committed to original aspirations, answer to the call of our two people, and work together to enhance bilateral ties so as to bring even greater benefits to our two countries," the ambassador stated.
The Chinese New Year this year coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the Philippines. During his address, Huang remarked on the shared historical memories and the strong people-to-people bonds between the two nations, emphasizing the depth of their friendship.
Despite the warm sentiments expressed, the Ambassador did not address ongoing tensions in the West Philippine Sea, including the continued presence of the so-called "monster ship" within Philippine waters, nor did he mention the outcomes of the recent bilateral consultation mechanism held between the two countries.
The reception, attended by senior officials from the Philippine government including representatives from the Department of Foreign Affairs, as well as ambassadors from various nations, highlighted the significance of China-Philippines relations.

Among the attendees were officials from Japan, a key partner in defense and maritime security.
Officials from GMA Integrated News also attended the Chinese New Year Reception.
Vice President Sara Duterte and First Lady Liza Araneta Marcos also sent their greetings to China during the event. "Over five decades our nations have committed to enriching our bilateral relations on the basis of sovereign equality, achieving milestones in various areas of cooperation," said Duterte. She added that the New Year should bring blessings of health, abundance, and peace.
In her own statement, Marcos stressed, "The strong bilateral relations between our countries have expanded over decades and reflect the longstanding friendship and cooperation between our peoples." — BM, GMA Integrated News
