PH Army to simulate wartime operations in 2025 exercise

The Philippine Army is set to conduct a realistic simulation of wartime operations in the second iteration of its "Combined Arms Training Exercise (CATEX) Katihan" in 2025.

Philippine Army spokesperson Colonel Louie Dema-ala announced during a press briefing that the exercise will take place at Fort Magsaysay, Nueva Ecija, from March 3 to 12.

“The exercise will test the land defense concept wherein combined arms operations serve as a key tool of the Army's land defense strategy to defeat current and future threats," explained Dema-ala.

"Various unit trainings involving different warfighting functions will be integrated into CATEX Katihan,” he added.

The exercise will also serve as preparation for other major training events, including Salaknib, Balikatan, and the Joint Pacific Multinational Readiness Center exercises conducted with the United States.

This year’s CATEX Katihan is expected to be more extensive, with participation from two infantry divisions and specialized enabler units of the Philippine Army. — DVM, GMA Integrated News
