Suspected Chinese spies take videos of PCG ship in Palawan, nabbed
Foreign tourists, who claimed to be Taiwanese, have been arrested for alleged espionage.
According to John Consulta's report on "24 Oras," a source told GMA Integrated News that the suspects were Chinese citizens with links to the Chinese man who was earlier arrested also for alleged spying.
Residents in the community were alarmed when they saw the foreigners taking cellphone videos of the Philippine Coast Guard ship in the area.
They became even more concerned when the guests put up a CCTV camera pointed at the sea.
The camera was placed up a tree without the permission of the resort owner.
The suspects have denied the accusations but the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the National Bureau of Investigation were confident in their findings.
“Napakaraming evidences na nakukuha tayo. In the cellphones, we have pictures of the military camps, pictures of the ships… Mga barko, mga kagamitan ng militar, pero iilan pa lang ang nahuli natin. Marami pa ho ito,” said AFP Chief of Staff General Romeo Brawner.
(We have gathered many pieces of evidence. In the cellphones, we have pictures of the military camps, pictures of the ships… Ships, and military equipment, but we’ve only been able to catch some of them. There are more.)
“Mayroon pang follow-up. ‘Yan ay ilalahad namin sa publiko… Kinukumpleto lang natin ang ating ebidensya, because nakakuha tayo ng mga apparatus," NBI director Jaime Santiago said.
(We still have follow-ups. We will publicize this… We are just completing our evidence because we were able to find an apparatus.)
"We cannot just examine that apparatus without a court order. We have already applied for a warrant to disclose the content of those apparatus (so that it would hold up in court)," he added.
Meanwhile, a source from the NBI disclosed photographic evidence of the alleged Chinese spy whose family claimed was being tortured in detainment.
