Sara Duterte impeachment signed by 153 House members —Sec Gen Velasco

House Secretary General Reginald Velasco said Wednesday at least 153 lawmakers have signed a fourth impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte.

In an interview with reporters, Velasco said the complaint will be presented to the House plenary Wednesday afternoon.

“Yeah, we have enough numbers, 102 lang ‘yung requirement. It was last reported na 153 na e but wala pa kaming (we don't have the) exact number until we report it to the plenary,” he said.

"It will be presented to the plenary and once its approved, transmitted na agad sa Senate. Impeached is the term but, of course, she has to be tried by the Senate," he added.

In a separate interview with GMA News Online, Velasco said "more signatures are coming."

Three impeachment complaints were filed against Duterte in December 2024. Velasco said then that he is yet to act on the complaints because he is waiting for another complaint to be filed.

Senate Secretary Renato Bantug has instructed the staff members of the Senate Public Information Bureau (PRIB) to prepare for the possible receipt of the impeachment complaint against Duterte Wednesday.

However, Senate President Francis “Chiz” Escudero said the chamber is not preparing for “anything regarding impeachment.”

“We cannot and will not assume anything until and unless it is a fact. The statements made by an over-eager staff was not authorized by me nor was it proper,” Escudero said.

Today is the last session day in Congress as they go on break to give way for the campaign for Eleksyon 2025.
