PH Navy saves South Korean passenger ship with 9 Pinoy crew in Ilocos Norte

The Philippine Navy on Friday said a South Korean passenger vessel and its nine Filipino crew members were rescued after the ship encountered mechanical malfunction in the waters of Burgos, Ilocos Norte.

In a statement, the Naval Forces Northern Luzon said Udosarang 1 issued an emergency alert when it experienced mechanical malfunction around 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

“The emergency alert was monitored by the Maritime Situation Awareness Center – North (MSAC-N) and Naval Monitoring Detachment Pasuquin (NMD Pasuquin),” the Naval Forces Northern Luzon said.

“This derangement restricted its ability to maneuver, prompting this Command to take immediate action,” it added.

BRP Nestor Reinoso (PC380) was deployed to respond to Udosarang 1.

“After establishing contact with the vessel, PC380 escorted UDOSARANG 1 to Sual, Pangasinan, where it could safely fix its mechanical malfunction,” the Naval Forces Northern Luzon said.

The nine Filipino crew members of Udosarang 1 were safe and encountered no other problems, according to the Naval Forces Northern Luzon. — BAP, GMA Integrated News
