PNP ready as Eleksyon 2025 campaigns kick off Feb 11
The Philippine National Police (PNP) has assured the public that it is fully prepared to provide security as the campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups kicks off on Tuesday, February 11.
“Aasahan po natin na yung security coverage po natin sa mga inaasahan pong influx ng mga national candidates po natin from the National Capital Region down to Visayas and Mindanao ay naka-ready po yan,” PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Jean Fajardo said in a press briefing.
(You can expect our security coverage for the anticipated influx of national candidates, from the National Capital Region to the Visayas and Mindanao, is ready.)
She added that additional personnel will be deployed in key locations and engagement areas based on prior coordination with national candidates regarding their campaign stops.
PNP Chief Police General Rommel Marbil has ordered maximum police deployment, particularly in election areas of concern.
As of January 9, a total of 403 areas have been classified as election areas of concern:
- 188 areas under the Yellow category – These areas have reported suspected election-related incidents in the past two polls, excluding those involving domestic terror groups. They may have also previously been placed under Comelec control or have a history of armed groups and intense political rivalries.
- 177 areas under the Orange category – These areas exhibit two or more factors from the Yellow category and face serious armed threats from terror or insurgent groups.
- 38 areas under the Red category – These areas meet the Yellow category criteria but also have significant security threats from terror groups. Authorities will closely monitor these areas due to the heightened risk of violence and intense political conflicts.
