First day of Eleksyon 2025 campaign period 'generally peaceful' -PNP

The PNP said the first day of the campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups was generally peaceful.

The first day of the campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups for the May 2025 elections on Tuesday was “generally peaceful,” the Philippine National Police (PNP) said on Wednesday.

In a statement, the PNP reported that “the first day of the campaign period for national-level candidates on February 11, 2025, was generally peaceful across the country.”

“Based on the consolidated reports from the PNP National Election Monitoring Action Center (NEMAC), there were no major incidents recorded throughout the day,” the PNP added.

Police officers were fully deployed and remained vigilant to ensure public safety and security during campaign activities, according to the PNP.

The PNP, meanwhile, called on candidates and their supporters to observe order and regulations throughout the campaign period.

“While the initial day of the campaign period proceeded smoothly, the PNP urges all candidates, their supporters, and the general public to uphold peace, order, and the rule of law as the campaign season progresses,” the PNP said.

“We call on the public to report any election-related concerns to the nearest police station or through our designated hotlines and social media platforms,” it added.

The campaign period for senatorial candidates and party-list groups started on Tuesday and will run until May 10, 2025.

Meanwhile, the campaign period for candidates for House of Representatives and parliamentary, provincial, city and municipal elections will be from March 28 to May 10.

Election Day is on May 12, but overseas voters may cast their votes from April 13 to May 12, while local absentee voters may cast their votes from April 28 to 30.

As of February 7, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said there was one validated election-related incident of violence in Western Visayas.

One suspected election-related incident of violence was also reported in Central Luzon, which is still undergoing validation.
