MANILA, Philippines - At least two bishops on Tuesday defended Manila Archbishop Gaudencio Cardinal Rosales against claims that he was “anti-homosexual” for barring gays from joining the yearly Santacruzan procession. According to Antipolo Bishop Gabriel Reyes, Rosales was just expressing the church’s views on gays participating in the centuries-old Catholic tradition. "The Cardinal is just expressing his mind and the church's teaching with regards to this, and there's nothing wrong with that," he said. Reyes echoed Rosales statement that Santacruzan is a religious tradition and thus should be treated as sacred. Pampanga Bishop Paciano Aniceto, for his part, said that the Manila Cardinal was not being “anti-homosexual” when he made the remarks in a radio interview. "He (Cardinal Rosales) is not against them (homosexuals). He is just against the idea of them participating in a religious activity," he said. - GMANews.TV
