PNP to DOJ: Include Pryde Henry Teves in brother's murder cases
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday asked the Department of Justice (DOJ) to include former Negros Oriental Governor Pryde Henry Teves and several other individuals in the multiple murder cases of former lawmaker Arnolfo “Arnie” Teves Jr. over the alleged killing of Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo in 2023.
PNP-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group chief Police Brigadier General Nicolas Torre III said this was submitted for case build-up.
“May mga bagong ebidensya na na-uncover, so idinagdag natin para mapag-aralan ng ating prosecution kung paano ito ma-include at ma-isampa na rin sa korte,” Torre said in an ambush interview.
He said the evidence uncovered included the recovery of explosives and firearms.
Torre, however, declined to disclose more details, saying the panel of prosecutors will still review the case.
GMA News Online has sought comment from Teves’ camp but has yet to receive a response as of posting time.
Teves is running for governor anew of the province in the May 2025 elections.
Arnie Teves, who has yet to return to the country, is facing multiple murder charges before a Manila court. Degamo and five others were killed when armed men fired shots while the late official was distributing aid at his residence in Pamplona.
In December, the DOJ announced that the Timor-Leste Court of Appeal granted anew the country’s extradition request for Teves.
Aside from this, Teves and others have also been charged with the alleged killing of three individuals in Negros Oriental in 2019.
Teves and 12 others have also been designated as terrorists by the Anti-Terrorism Council, citing several alleged killings and harassment in Negros Oriental.
The former lawmaker has repeatedly denied the allegations against him.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
