Marcos: Be extra cautious vs. fake news amid campaign season

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Sunday called on the public to be wary of fake news, disinformation and misinformation being used by electoral candidates as the campaign season is in full gear ahead of the upcoming national and local elections in May.

Marcos said Filipinos should be able to distinguish whether or not the information they receive are factual, especially content being consumed online.

Kaliwa’t kanan na rin ‘yan, kaya dapat maingat tayong mga mamamayan,” he said in a vlog posted on Sunday evening.

(The campaign season comes with intrigues and throwing mud, also called fake news. This is already left and right, so the public should be cautious. As we said, the new Filipino knows to distinguish correct and wrong information so now, fake news and disinformation are prevalent. We need to be extra cautious with what we read online, but that is not difficult.)

Marcos has joined several campaign rallies of the Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas, which he is endorsing. In his speech on Friday he called on votes to choose candidates who will continue to work and serve the country.

(The truth is, campaign or not, fake news will be there. Campaign or now, nothing can stop the government from serving. We will strengthen what has been started, we will intensify the improvement of our country.) — BM, GMA Integrated News
