2 senators, 1Sambayan back Querubin’s Senate bid in Eleksyon 2025

Two senators have expressed support for the senatorial campaign of retired military official Ariel Querubin for the upcoming May 12 polls.

Senators JV Ejercito and Grace Poe confirmed to GMA News Online on Thursday that they support Querubin to join the upper chamber if elected.

“Though running independent, I would say he is deserving and a worthy candidate! I will support this fine soldier who has sacrificed his life, blood, sweat, and tears for our country,” said Ejercito in a statement.

1Sambayan, a coalition led by former Supreme Court Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, also reiterated its support to Querubin.

“This guy is a hero. Nothing against him in terms of corruption or anything. We know him as a man of integrity. He laid his life several times for the republic,” Carpio was quoted in a recent interview.

Querubin was earlier named one of the senatorial candidates that the 1Sambayan will endorse for the midterm elections.

Querubin was involved in a coup attempt against former President Corazon Aquino in 1989 where a civilian reportedly died. He was detained for his involvement but was granted amnesty.

He was also part of the marine standoff at Fort Bonifacio in 2006 against former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo which put him back in jail. It was the same story for him as he was later granted amnesty.

Querubin also joined the Manila Peninsula Siege in 2007. But just like in the past uprisings, he was granted amnesty by then President Benigno Aquino III.

But he earlier said that he had no regrets about being part of the coup attempts in the past, noting that he just wanted to fight corruption then. —LDF, GMA Integrated News
