UK foreign affairs secretary Lammy to visit PH on March 8
United Kingdom (UK) foreign affairs secretary David Lammy is set to visit the Philippines on Saturday, March 8, according to the Philippines' Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) on Friday.
“The UK Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, the Right Honourable David Lamy MP, will visit the Philippines on 8 March 2025,” DFA spokesperson Ma. Teresita Daza said in a video announcement.
“Secretary Lammy's visit is envisioned to solidify the enhanced partnership between the Philippines and the UK, which was launched in 2021 through the signing of the Joint Framework of the Enhanced Partnership, and thereby to further deepen Philippine-UK bilateral relations,” she added.
Daza said Lammy will meet with Philippine Foreign Affairs Secretary Enrique Manalo to review cooperation across various pillars of the Enhanced Partnership.
This partnership covers trade and investments, defense, maritime, climate change and environment, and science and technology, according to Daza.
“The visit will also set in motion preparations for the commemoration of the 80 years of Philippine-UK bilateral relations in 2026,” Daza said.
“The foreign ministers will exchange views and insights on regional and international issues of mutual concern in relation to the Philippine-UK commitment to promote peace, stability and a rules-based international order,” she added.
Lammy will also visit Philippine President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. at the Malacañang Palace as well as Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro Jr. and more officials from the Philippine Coast Guard and the Department of Social Welfare and Development. —Joviland Rita/ VAL, GMA Integrated News
