PH Air Force says Villamor Airbase as arrival point ‘normal’ after Duterte arrest

The Philippine Air Force (PAF) said on Tuesday that there is nothing unusual to have its facilities used as an arrival or departure point for important personalities.

PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo made the statement after former President Rodrigo Duterte was served an arrest warrant by the International Criminal Court and was later brought to the Villamor Airbase in Pasay City.

“It is normal for PAF's secured base facilities to be used as arrival or departure points for air movements of certain important personalities. For operational security, we however defer to the concerned government agency responsible for this activity to confirm and give specific details,”  she said in a statement.

Duterte is now under the custody of authorities for crimes against humanity after he arrived from Hong Kong. But the Department of Justice has yet to issue a statement on the serving of arrest warrant against the former chief executive. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
