Pinoys show support for Duterte outside The Hague prison

The Hague, Netherlands —Dozens of Filipinos gathered in front of the Scheveningen Prison awaiting the arrival of former president Rodrigo Duterte.

Duterte's supporters sang Lupang Hinirang and brandished the Philippine flag.

Some have come from different cities in the Netherlands and even nearby countries, such as Germany.

Elizabeth Prado, a Filipina who has been living in Germany for 40 years, told GMA News she came to the Hague to give her moral support to the former president.

“I wish the ICC to give him the right decision and bring him back to the Philippines,” Prado told GMA News.

“For our kababayan who support his arrest, please stop blaming him (for the charges),” she added.

Meanwhile, a supporter who went by the name Alvin, came to show his "undying love to the former president during this difficult time.” A master's student living in the Netherlands for eight years, Alvin said “there are a lot of problematic parts about the arrest."

The plane bringing former President Rodrigo Duterte to the Netherlands landed at the Rotterdam The Hague airport at 4:54 p.m. (11:54 p.m. Philippine time).
