The Makabayan coalition condemned the red-tagging of its senatorial candidates as it culminated its senatorial campaign in the Bicol Region.

In a statement, Makabayan said the Philippine Army allegedly blocked campaign volunteers of Kilusang Magbubukid of Bicol on March 22.

The volunteers were then able to attend the forum and campaign after senatorial bet Danilo Ramos talked with the military.

Makabayan also reported that flyers red-tagging senatorial bets Teddy Casiño and Jerome Adonis were dumped at the gates of Makabayan-Camarines Sur office.

“We condemn the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) and its minions for being at the forefront of red-tagging forays against progressive candidates and activists,” said Makabayan Bicol.

“Don't be afraid! Let's continue our unity against the high prices of food, utilities, and basic commodities! Let's fight together for livelihood, rights, and sovereignty with all our courage,” it added.

Makabayan campaigned in the Bicol Region from March 20 to 24 with party-list groups Bayan Muna, Garbriela Women’s Party, and Kabataan Partylist.

GMA News Online is reaching out to the NTF-ELCAC for its side.

No to jeepney phaseout, abolish regional wage boards

During his campaign, PISTON national president Mody Floranda challenged local officials to issue a concrete resolution supporting the no jeepney phaseout.

“Our priority law is to ensure the livelihood and income of drivers and operators. We will fight, inside and outside the Senate,” Floranda said.

Liza Maza said there is a need to regulate the “downstream oil industry, unbundle oil prices, and establish centralized procurement of oil to ensure affordable goods and basic services for all.”

Makabayan also said it would prioritize abolishing the regional wage board

“Poverty is worsening due to the unsustainable increase in the inflation rate or increase in prices of basic needs throughout the country,” Makabayan Bicol said. —Mariel Celine Serquiña/LDF, GMA Integrated News
