Female geologist joins PH delegation to Geneva exhibit of inventions

Filipina scientists will present their work at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (IEIG) next month.

Geologist and officer-in-charge of the Geology and Geophysics Research and Development Division at the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PhiVolcs) Mabelline Cahulogan is set to be a part of the Philippine Delegation.

Cahulogan is part of the team behind the development of PhiVolcs’ HazardHunter Philippines and GeoAnalytics Philippine platforms, which is used to streamline natural hazard data for planning and decision-making in the country.

Also part of the delegation is chemist and Department of Science and Technology-Industrial Technology Development Institute director Dr. Annabelle Briones.

Briones boasts a 40-year experience in research and development.

She was also the lead for the Improved Salt Technologies (I-Salt) Project, that resulted in the invention of the Continuous Screw Type Salt Washer used by salt farmers to achieve a 97% salt purity level by removing salt contaminants.

The 50th IEIG, which will be held in Geneva, Switzerland from April 9 to 13, 2025, is known as the “most important exhibition of inventions anywhere today,” with participation of innovators from more than 45 countries worldwide. — Jiselle Anne Casucian/BAP, GMA Integrated News
